In order to make your game known, it's important to do lots of research. Researching can help find more information about many things that would help you out in the part of making your own game. You need tons and tons of research to help you out.

Knowing your audience would make your game known. Targeting certain audience will capture their attention. To do this, it's best to research more about who you should specifically target. Looking at the different demographics such as male/female gamer, hardcore/midcore/casual, and age can help set a basis for who should be targeted. 

   

Since there are many genres of games, researching what genre are popular among the many players is a key to determine what genre you want to build your game from. Finding the genre that's popular among a certain demographic would help you figure out what people are more interested in and what specific genre is more popular than the rest.

   

Researching the best selling games of 2014 showed what was popular during 2014. Not only was there information about a game sales, it had the type of genre and the console the game could play on.
